Devices:

For intuitive interaction with complex data in 3D space you need special input devices that allow a comfortable and efficient use of the increasing functionality of Virtual Reality applications.

With Ascension's Wanda and with the special developments of the Fraunhofer IAO VirCinity offers interaction solutions especially tailored to the needs of VR end users.

Ascension Wanda

Wanda is a navigation device with a joystick and 3 programmable buttons. With an embedded 6 DOF sensor, Wanda can be used in free space, unlike a typical mouse or joystick. Ideal for CAVE environments, Wanda can be used to manipulate 3D objects in a virtual environment. Use with Ascension products as an additional device that can be "flocked" with multiple trackers, or alone as a stand-alone or ISA or PCI input.

Libelle

With 'Libelle' ('dragon fly') VirCinity offers a competitive wireless input device, optimized for the optical tracking system from ART (see also optical Tracking). 'Libelle' - weight 47,5 g only - with multiple handholds allows precise handling both for users that are standing or seated. This device without buttons can be used for special interaction concepts or in combination with other interaction devices like e.g. Opti-Hornet (see below).

Hornet

'Hornet' (weight 71 g) is a wired input device designed to house the sensors of electromagnetic tracking systems like e.g. Ascension MotionStar Wired and Wireless or Polhemus. The device has two well distinguishable buttons that can be easily reached by thumb and forefinger. Depending on the application, Hornet can be additionally equipped with a joystick or a trackpoint device. This allows a menu interaction independent of tracking or a redundant possibility of navigation. The ring that is part of the Hornet design allows to relax the hand for a short time without releasing the input device.

Opti-Hornet

'Opti-Hornet' is an additional wireles input device with characteristics comparable to Hornet. Attached wings with reflectors for optical tracking systems plus radio communication for the buttons supplement the funtionality.

The interaction devices from Fraunhofer IAO are optimized for the anthropometric measures of the hand and well suited both for right and left handers. This allows a precise interaction with the virtual environment without fatiguing the hand.
