COVISE Basic

COVISE Basic:

The COVISE Basic System is the backbone of the COVISE Visualization System.

COVISE is based on an infra structure layer, that supports collaborative working in the network, too. On top of this layer, the modules implement the actual funtionality. The Basic package contains the user interface a reader module for the native COVISE format, the desktop renderer and all the visualization algorithms.

Included Modules are e.g. :

  • CuttingSurface
This module performs planar, cylindrical or spherical cuts through all supported mesh types and interpolates vector and scalar data on the cut surface.

  • IsoSurface
Find surfaces of constant scalar value and optionally interpolate another scalar or vector field on the surface

  • VectorField
Vector Arrows show vector field direction and any scalar parameter. COVISE allows to map arbitrary parameters to the arrows, e.g. map the temperature to the vectors giving both flow and temperature distribution in one image

  • Tracer (Particle Tracing)
This module supports the full spectrum of particle visualisation: Streamlines, Streaklines, Pathlines, and Animated Particles allow complex analysis of transient and stationary flow.

Supported Grid types are:

  • Unstructured Grids
Grids consisting of explicitly defined cells, used in many standard fluid solvers (e.g. Star-CD, Fluent, Fire, CFX-5) and most Structural Dynamics Codes (ANSYS, PAM-Crash, Patran, Nastran)

  • Free formed Structured Grids
Grids with implicit connectivity but given x/y/z-coordinates for each grid vertex, widely used in Fluid Dynamics (TASCflow, Fenfloss, several NASA codes)

  • Rectilinear Grids and Uniform Grids
Used for special Flow Simulation (e.g. MagmaSoft)

All Grid types are supported for Multi-Block and transient simulations.

The Basic package contains the reader module for the native COVISE format. In order to read in other formats you need one of the packages COVISE CFD (Readers for Fluid Dynamics), COVISE FEM (Readers for Finite Elements), or the development package COVISE DEV (to write your own reader).

The Renderer contained in the Basic package shows the output of the visualization modules on the screen of the desktop. For a 3D representation (CAVE, Cykloop, etc.) you need in addition the VR module COVISE VR (COVER).

In order to assure an efficient use of the COVISE software, VirCinity offers a 1-day introduction 'Covise Basics'.

(A survey of software training offered by VirCinity is in preparation. VirCinity's partners will find a presentation 'COVISE Basics' in 'PARTNER INFO' - passwort required.)
